South Africa Free Ranging Lion & Plains Game Safaris

This is an exceptional trip to take your family on. 5 star accommodations and safe, professional hosts and impeccable service and beauty await the trophy hunter and their family. This can be a 5-14 day safari depending on your schedule and game hunted.

This outfitter is the only accredited private game reserve in South Africa for free roaming Lion Hunting; based on the National Draft Policy, Norms and Standards for large predators. These Lions are not released. They were not turned out on the ranch as young males. These Lions proliferate on their own and are born and live on the concession. These Lions hunt on their own by capturing and killing their own wild hoof stock species such as Zebra, Wildebeest, and Impala for food. This is currently the best Lion outfitter we know of in terms of value, trophy quality, and quality of the hunt. It is also about half the price compared to Tanzania, Zimbabwe and other African countries when you consider daily rates and trophy fees ion other areas. The area and concession have been safe for our previous clients and the host is very professional.

The unprecedented success of this hunting opportunity relates directly to over 15 years  of hard work and well-developed infrastructure and dedicated game management programs. This has resulted in the accreditation of three related properties of enormous acreage for the fair chase hunting of the magnificent African Lion. Yes, the perimeter fencing is game fenced. However, the acreage is enormous and not cross fenced into small pastures.

Lodging: The accommodations are 5 star and include gourmet meals prepared by a chef, daily maid service and laundry, and fine wines with dinner.

Unlike the typical Lion Hunting of the past, hunting is done amongst the hills and the plains of the Karoo. Many Lions are seen across the veldt. The hunter is able to be selective in his choice of a good manned Lion. The hunt has also been accredited for Bow Hunting on limited tags.

Included in the trip: all airport ground transfers, services of a professional hunter/guide, trackers and skinners, and all trophy game care and prep.

Accommodations: The sophisticated elegance of the up-market accommodation, with no luxury or detail spared to create unique comfort for hunting clients, ensures personal attention and care from their hosts at all times. Each private en-suite is complemented by artistic Safari Décor and style, which accentuates the hunting surroundings. Amenities include: Air conditioning, heaters, comfortable beds with electric blankets, fully equipped bathroom facilities, bathrobes and slippers, mini-bar and lounge furniture for relaxation. Satellite Television is also installed into these luxury accommodations. The Lodge has an ambience and romance of a bygone Colonial African era.

After a day's hard hunting, hunters are entertained in the magnificently appointed guest lounge. Dining is a gourmet delight experience , where the Chef creates mouth-watering masterpieces. Candlelit, multi-course Dinners are served in the central main dining hall, verandah or starlit boma adjoining the main guest lounge. There is no better way of encountering the freedom of spirit of the real Africa, listening to the roar of Lions, whilst relaxing and enjoying the famous African Barbeque in the beautiful outdoors. The well-designed garden has a full pool and seating areas.

The full complimentary Bar is fully stocked with a wide selection of local and international drinks.

All local beers, ciders and soft drinks are available after a day's hunting. Private Wines are especially selected by your Host, to be enjoyed with great Food, to cement true friendships, to honour ethical Hunters, enjoying the great African Adventure.

Dates: March-October.

Rate: Please call for rates. Cost for male Lion (all inclusive) + any trophy fees for plains game including Buffalo.

  • This safari is in great demand and has very limited availability. These are mature, dark, full maned Lions that are born wild on the concession and feed on wild plains game. The 4 concessions range in size on average of about 15,000 acres each. These concessions are game fenced, but this safari is designated "free ranging Lions based on the national draft policy on norms and standards for large predators". It is truly one of the only areas that is designated free range in this manner.
  • The advantage and value proposition to the client is the cost for this Lion safari. This can be a 5-14 day safari versus your average 14-21 day safari.

To reserve this safari: Clients may place the hunt deposit and hunt fee with Riata via check or credit card.
