Guatemala Sailfish Lodge

Why fish Guatamala?

Guatemala is one of the largest breeding grounds for Pacific sailfish and boasts one of the highest concentrations of sailfish in the world.

Known as the "Sailfish Capital of the World", Guatemala is undoubtedly among the finest sailfishing destinations in the world.

Along Guatemala’s Pacific coast, strong currents moving east from Mexico collide with currents moving west from El Salvador, creating an enormous natural occurring eddy, rich in bait and pelagic fish, making it a haven for sailfish, marlin, dorado, tuna, grouper, and many other species.

Guatemala holds both the conventional and fly fishing records for most sailfish released in one day. Our fleet often releases 30 sailfish a day during peak season and has a year round daily average of 15-20 releases. While our peak season is from October to June, sailfish are caught year round. Throughout the year anglers will enjoy calm waters and the benefit of a friendly fishing community, where captains are in constant communication to ensure everyone has an unforgettable fishing experience.

Five minutes from the marina, the lodge is the perfect place to relax after a long day of fishing.

Situated in a secure, residential, tree-lined development, the lodge sits on the edge of a canal overlooking mangroves. This spacious, private property boasts an incredible outdoor area with lush gardens, an inviting pool, and boardwalks to your private air-conditioned bungalows.

In the evenings, guests gather at the open air bar and restaurant to share fish tales and to dine on delicious food, including prime U.S. beef, grilled jumbo shrimp, mouthwatering ceviche, and dorado and yellowfin sashimi. Sharing a drink overlooking the pool at rancho bar is a great way to get to know fellow anglers.

Our on-site store features quality local handicrafts, renowned Antigua coffee, fine jade jewelry, Cuban cigars, as well as fishing related apparel. Free internet access is available to all guests.

We are passionate about delicious food and high quality wine.

Our food is made with care using only the freshest ingredients from local markets & growers. Our beef is imported USDA certified. We have also sourced some organic vegetables including a range of lettuce from nearby Antigua to use in our salads. All of our produce is washed thoroughly before use. We are very fortunate to have giant shrimp, ocean fresh mahi mahi and succulent lobster right at our doorstep. Our Chef visits the shrimp boats early each morning to ensure we have the freshest seafood possible. Enjoy delicacies such as yellowfin tuna sashimi, ocean fresh pan fried mahi mahi with a sauce of butter, wine and toasted almonds and giant shrimp marinated in ginger & sweet chili sauce.

After many hours carefully tasting wine we have chosen some outstanding wine with a selection of grape varieties from a range of different countries including Italy, Chile, Argentina and New Zealand for your tasting pleasure.

Our conservation measures

Guatemala has been at the forefront of conservation and the team at the lodge is very committed to the issue. We exclusively use circle hooks while billfishing and all billfish are catch and release.
